【The 21st Kamakura Arts Festival — Kamakura–Nice Sister City 60th Anniversary Event】
A concert collaboration between two hugely popular artists, blending Japanese painting with cello.
Mariko Miyashita, known for the blue of "Miyama Blue," has created a new work inspired by Nice in the South of France, Kamakura's sister city celebrating its 60th anniversary. Cellist Yuko Mitani, a beloved performer, adds color to the piece through sound. Experience this one-of-a-kind collaboration between two celebrated artists at Kakuon-ji, an ancient temple in Kamakura.
After the performance, there will also be a garden reception in the temple grounds where guests can mingle directly with the artists.
■ Performers
Mariko Miyashita (Japanese painting)
Yuko Mitani (Cello)
■ From the performers
"Through this collaboration, I wanted to try painting a work inspired by music. When I listen to Bach's Cello Suites, I feel as though they reveal the truths of this world. I wanted to express the inspiration I felt from the piece, drawing on all of creation. This is my attempt to suggest that music and painting are like friends sharing the same goal — the pursuit of truth." — Mariko Miyashita, Japanese painter
"Color becomes sound, form becomes rhythm — the moment I first encountered Ms. Miyashita's work, music began to flow through my heart. This time, my costume is also based on a yukata featuring her artwork. Let's share this once-in-a-lifetime collaboration together in this wonderful space!" — Yuko Mitani, cellist
